Workforce Center Computer Lab
  • In June 2006, the reconfiguration of our fully staffed computer lab at Rural Human Services was completed allowing for a quiet organized learning environment.
  • In place are 14 Microsoft based computer stations with 1 station designated for use by people with disabilities.
  • We also have two Apple computer stations.
  • Many programs are available to assist clients and employers in training, testing, resume writing, career choices and access to online job search and application as well as Web design.
  • Between April and June, 260 individuals used the many services in our Lab.
 
 
 
 
 

ESL Computer Lab
United Methodist Church, Smith River

  • Eight new Dell computer work stations were purchased for the ESL program to assist in the ESL training program. They are schedueled to be up and running in mid July.
  • Between April and June, A total of 26 ESL classes were held with a total attendance of 337.

 

 
 


Food Bank

RHS Food Bank Distribution

The Food Distribution Program coordinated by Rural Human Services has been expanded to focus on target groups of low income Families in the Del Norte County area that visit our One Stop Services and also as an outreach program.

RHS Monthly Food Bank Distribution Program

  • Distributions are made the 1st Tuesday of the 2nd full week of each month.
  • A total of 2,436 households, 5,428 family members were issued food boxes from four locations in Del Norte County at the Klamath Community Center, Smith River Community Center, Veterans Bldg in Crescent City and Rural Human Services in Crescent City.
  • Food boxes are also distributed and delivered to those in need in our community.

RHS Emergency Food Distribution Program

  • During the months of April, May and June of 2006, 92 individuals and family members were issued emergency food boxes in the lobby of Rural Human Services.

June 20, 2006 RHS Tailgate Food Distribution

  • 6,780 lbs of fresh vegetables, fruits and dry goods were distributed to 323 local residents in need.
  • The tractor trailer filled with goods was provided by California Emergency Foodlink.
  • Distributions will continue on a monthly basis through September and possibly October depending on availability.

Storm Restoration Project

In early June of 2006, RHS Workforce Center began planning and organizing work crews consisting of dislocated and long term unemployed workers in the Del Norte area to assist in the clean up and repair of areas damaged by the 2005 storm damage to Del Norte County where up to 5 Million dollars of storm damage occurred.

  • In early June of 2006, RHS began planning and organizing work crews consisting of dislocated and long term unemployed workers in the Del Norte area to assist in the clean up and repair of areas damaged by the 2005 storm damage to Del Norte County.
  • Currently there are 14 individual crew members working in three damaged areas.
  • Plans are underway to add additional work sites in the community and up an additional 26 crew members from the community.
  • Crew members will be hired for up to 6 months providing these individuals with work history, experience and a much needed pay check.
